Tagged!

For the first time since I started blogging last September, I’ve been “tagged” -- not specifically, you imderstamd [oops, I meant understand, of course, but my fingers and brain must not have been connected, and thanks, Jeannelle, for bringing the typo to my attention so cleverly in your comment], but in a general, catch-all sort of way. Let me explain. Tagging is what it’s called when someone has been picked to answer a series of questions, then they pick someone else -- you -- to answer the same questions, and after you have answered them, you pick someone else to do the same thing. And on and on it goes, until everybody in the entire universe gets to play the game. Or so goes the theory.

My “blogger extraordinaire” cyber-friend, Jeannelle of Iowa, responded to a tag she received by notifying everyone -- EVERYONE -- who reads her blog that he/she/they had now been tagged. Here are the questions:

1. What was I doing ten years ago?
2. Five snacks I enjoy
3. Five things on my to-do list today
4. Things I’d want if I were a billionaire
5. Five jobs I've had
6. Five of my bad habits
7. Places I've lived

And here are my answers:

1. What was I doing ten years ago? Contemplating early retirement, celebrating our 35th anniversary, driving a 1996 Toyota Camry, enjoying my three grandchildren (now there are six), playing with my white poodle, Pierre Jean-Jacques Dubois (P.J. for short), vacationing in Florida.

2. Five snacks I enjoy. Potato chips, chicken salad on club crackers, tortilla chips with peach-mango salsa, cashews, either lemon meringue pie or butter pecan ice cream (maybe that’s a dessert, not a snack).

3. Five things on my to-do list today. Wish my daughter-in-law a happy birthday, spend the day with Elijah and Noah while their parents go faux a room somewhere, send a baby gift to our new great-niece in Texas, pay some bills online, play Scrabble and/or Skip-Bo with Ellie.

4. Things I’d want if I were a billionaire. Good health, twenty-five more years with Ellie, friends that like me for me and not my money, a summer home in Banff, a winter home in Maui.

5. Five jobs I’ve had. Soda jerk, steno-typist at Santa Fe Railroad, church organist, technical writer, computer programmer.

6. Five of my bad habits. Interrupting others when they're speaking, hogging the computer, I can’t think of any other bad habits -- oh, yeah, denial.

7. Places I’ve lived. Pawtucket, RI; Mansfield, TX; Bellevue, NE; Poughkeepsie, NY; Boca Raton, FL.

And now--tah-dah!--I tag none other than MY DAUGHTER! You know you who are.

  1. Wow.....you put that together in a hurry! How do you so quickly know that much about yourself? I don't imderstamd!

You certainly have lived in diverse places......in the U.S., anyhow. Difficult for me to comprehend that.....since I've never lived more than 7 miles from where I type right now.

Thanks for playing tag! I really didn't think anyone would, but now I know you SO MUCH better!!

Have a great day! Hope its not as humid in Georgia as in Iowa right now, but it probably is.

  2. Hi, Jeannelle! Thanks for reading my tag answers. I guess I don't understand your question about how I so quickly knew that much about myself. Don't you know all about yourself? Maybe one gets to know oneself better as one ages, and I'm 67. You still have many years ahead to get to know yourself.

I was born in Rhode Island, my parents moved to Texas when I was in second grade, I was stationed at Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Nebraska, and after I was honorably discharged from the Air Force I was hired by IBM, which you may think means International Business Machines but which all of its employees know means I'm Being Moved. The last place they moved me to was Atlanta in 1975, at which time I decided to stay put. My life in a nutshell.

  3. Okay...here's your daughter's info:

Ten years ago I was oblivious to the fact that Blake and I had conceived our first born, John Sawyer Strickland. (I would find out in early August that I was about 4 weeks along);-)

Five snacks I enjoy: Chips and Salsa, Spinach Dip on Hawaiian Bread, Mixed Nuts, Fruit, and Baby Ruth candy bars.

Five things on my to-do list today: Call Mom and Dad ;-), get Bunko prizes for Monday night's game, entertain Vickie and Will at the pool, put gas in the car, do laundry...

If I were a billionaire, I'd want a debt-free life...no mortgage, no loan payments, no credit cards...

Five jobs I've had: teacher, "executive" secretary (for Larry at Nuncie's), Assistant Head Cashier, fast food diva at McDonald's, Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts, Subway, and we can't ever for get the survey job at Town Center Mall that lasted all of about 3 hours before I quit.

Five bad habits: Watching reality TV, eating sweets when I know I'll keel over with cramps, chewing ice, I'm a neat freak, and sometimes I tend to have "stinkin' thinkin'" as my pastor says...to clarify, I tend to complain a bit too much sometimes...

Places I've lived: Poughkeepsie, NY; Boca Raton, FL; Marietta, GA; Jacksonville, AL; Kimberly, AL

So there it is...I now will tag MY MOM!! That means Dad has to get off the computer and let mom post a comment!! Love you both!!

  4. Oh, rhymeswithplague, the question was just a joke......but, you really did fulfill your tagging VERY quickly......mine took a couple weeks!!

I've accidently driven onto the grounds of the big IBM building in Rochester, MN......but, you must have never been moved to that location.

Its still difficult for me to imagine moving that many times.....but, it would probably be good for me; I'd get rid of junk in the house I don't need.
