Don’t look now, but...

I’m Jackie Kennedy.

No, really. I wandered over to “Brinkbeest in English” (Carolina in Nederland’s blog) yesterday only to learn that Carolina had taken a little online test consisting of two questions and discovered that she was Doris Day. I took it, and I’m Jackie Kennedy.

You might be Jackie or Doris or Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn or someone else. Maybe Ingrid Bergman or even Bette Davis.

The test has a long name. It’s called The Hello Quizzy Are-You-A-Jackie-Or-A-Marilyn-Or-Someone-Else Mad-Men-Era Female-Icon Quiz, but there are only two questions to be answered. Plus you have to tell whether you are male or female, and also divulge your date of birth.

Go ahead. Take the test. You know you want to.

Here is why I am Jackie Kennedy, or how I am like Jackie Kennedy, or something:

You are a Jackie. “I do everything the right way.”

Jackies are realistic, conscientious, and principled. They strive to live up to their high ideals.

How to Get Along with Me

* Take your share of the responsibility so I don’t end up with all the work.
* Acknowledge my achievements.
* I’m hard on myself. Reassure me that I’m fine the way I am.
* Tell me that you value my advice.
* Be fair and considerate, as I am.
* Apologize if you have been unthoughtful. It will help me to forgive.
* Gently encourage me to lighten up and to laugh at myself when I get uptight, but hear my worries first.

What I Like About Being a Jackie

* Being self-disciplined and able to accomplish a great deal
* Working hard to make the world a better place
* Having high standards and ethics; not compromising myself
* Being reasonable, responsible, and dedicated in everything I do
* Being able to put facts together, coming to good understandings, and figuring out wise solutions
* Being the best I can be and bringing out the best in other people

What’s Hard About Being a Jackie

* Being disappointed with myself or others when my expectations are not met
* Feeling burdened by too much responsibility
* Thinking that what I do is never good enough
* Not being appreciated for what I do for people
* Being upset because others aren’t trying as hard as I am
* Obsessing about what I did or what I should do
* Being tense, anxious, and taking things too seriously

Jackies as Children Often

* Criticize themselves in anticipation of criticism from others
* Refrain from doing things that they think might not come out perfect
* Focus on living up to the expectations of their parents and teachers
* Are very responsible; may assume the role of parent
* Hold back negative emotions (“good children aren't angry”)

Jackies as Parents

* Teach their children responsibility and strong moral values
* Are consistent and fair
* Discipline firmly

You know what? They're right.

I am Jackie Kennedy.

  3. Carolina, to echo one of your earliest comments to Billy Ray Barnwell:

    Yes.
    Yes.

Ruth, now I'm confused. Maybe I'm a Marilyn.

  4. Ruth, I figured it out. I'm Jackie Kennedy but I have an inner Marilyn.

  7. Putz, Putz, the thing is, you have to take the test. The test will tell you who you are. This isn't about self-analysis.

Jeannelle, Audrey Hepburn wandering amongst a herd of Holsteins, cleaning poop out of the barns, driving a tractor up and down the rows of corn. Somehow it doesn't compute....

  8. rhymsie,

Interestingly enough, I saw a documentary about Audrey Hepburn awhile back. She was a pretty tough cookie, having survived terrible conditions in her native Holland during WW2. Its difficult to see that in her stage persona, though, isn't it.

  9. Your daughter is Doris Day..."warm, concerned, nurturing, and sensitive to other people's needs".

  10. Somehow, I pictured you a bit differently. Shorter hair, perhaps, and no makeup?

  11. And they got all of that from two questions and your birth date . Wow.

  12. Jeannelle - I remember reading that about Audrey Hepburn too. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work as an advocate of UNICEF, and she also was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award by the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences. No slouch, she.

Angela - My daughter is Doris Day! I must have done something right!

    Pat in Arkansas - Perhaps.

Dr. John - The two questions were multiple choice. Okay, so it isn't rocket science.

  13. I seem to be the only Bette Davis in this group. I am not sure if that is a good or a bad thing.

  14. Reamus (Michael) , I wondered who might turn out to be Bette Davis! Are you the Three Faces of Eve Bette Davis or the Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Bette Davis or the Jezebel Bette Davis or the Now, Voyager Bette Davis?

Mrs. RWP took the test and turned out to be Grace Kelly.

  15. Hello there Robert
    Bette here!

You don't look at all like your childhood photo but hey people change...

  16. Oooo! You are gorgeous Jackie! I particularly like your earrings. Fancy a fun weekend away in Dallas? There's something I need to pick up from The Book Depository.

  17. By the way, I'm a Marilyn. I'm just going to lift up my sweater and take a quick peek!

  18. Like YP, I am a Marilyn, but I'm not going to loook down my shirt!

  19. RWP--

I think I would be the Now Voyager type but who knows, I am ot even sure why I am Bette!

  20. I had no idea this post would be so popular! People keep taking the test, and that's just fine with me!

Delwyn - Nice to hear from you again all the way from Down Under! I hope my changes have been for the better. Oh, and you can call me Bob. Robert seems like someone else.

Sam and Yorkshire Pudding - When you're a Marilyn, you don't have to peek beneath your sweater or look down your shirt, you just know.

Reamus - You don't have to know why, you can just bask (or cringe) in the knowledge that you are.
