My life is over.

There’s this guy, David Barlow of Ephraim, Utah, who refers to himself as Putz, probably because he isn’t aware of the original meaning of the word. Somehow, because of a comment someone left on his blog the other day, he has gotten it into his head that a blog must end after 500 posts. And that if it doesn’t, it should.

I sincerely hope not.

Because this is my 500th post.

Remember how Laverne De Fazio (Penny Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams) used to open their weekly sitcom by skipping down the street yelling, “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Schlemiel, Schlimazel, Hasenpfeffer Incorporated”? Now, using the links in this post, you can figure out what they were saying.

You’re welcome.

Ever helpful, that’s me.

It could have been worse. I could have gone out in a blaze of glory with a tribute to Lenny and Squiggy.

  1. my definition of putz is a schamell as cindy and laverne would say>>>>a character, and i have heard the other definition of what it is 'and where i grew up>>>not the streets of detroit, it was a uncomman mysterious earthy colorful unrefined putz, which i am and not the other nasty thing that you hear od in chigago, but never georgia, so i wonder where of all possible places you hear the other version????oh i ave now discarded DANIEL>>>.THAT WAS FUN FOR A WHILE

  2. A Schiemiel according to webster is an awkward person so that would describe me better than putz or ignoble enigma which i also am

  3. Congratulations on your 500th post, RWP!

I'm still without a home computer. I'm commenting from Gardening Daughter's computer while I am babysitting. Granddaughter is amusing herself with a crystal prism and making rainbows on the floor. It's actually sunny here today, for a change.

  4. I'm staying out of this battle between Putz and RWP, but thank you for the translation of Laverne and Shirley! Congrats on the 500 posts Mr. Brague!

  5. Bob,

And I surely hope there will be 500more!

Thanks for the prose, poetry and posers for the past two years I have been around here.

You and Putz work it out, but where I grew up in Brooklyn, it meant something much different than he seems to believe.

    Best,

  6. Everyone, thanks for the kind thoughts and visits from all you well-wishers, even Putz. I appreciate the good friends I have in blogland. I upset one woman so much recently that she came back and deleted every single comment she had ever left.

    Now that's hostility!

I hope you are all still around after another 500 posts.

  7. Hey R.W.P, CONGRATULATIONS ON # 500!

I was really surprised with what you said about #500 being Mr. Putz' s last. I had heard rumors but, "THAT WAS FUN FOR A WHILE."
You won't stop, we know that!

I came over to tell you that Dr. John is ill and is not posting right now.

Thank you for peeking in at my blog, I appreciate it very much. Please come back. ONE DAY I might have another Ask Dr. Jim post too. I've been too busy and still am.

  8. Yes, congrats dear Robert. Never give up!
Re. Sis - I think she was embarrassed, actually. Not hostile. If I know anything about women.
