I’m Three! (on September 28th)

...or rather, my blog is. So just two short years from now, on my blogaversary or my blogiversary or whatever it should be called, I can post the following:

Barbra Streisand singing (among other things) “I'm Five!”

An oddity regarding that clip is that at the end of the song “I’m Five” on her 1965 television special My Name Is Barbra Barbra said “on August 29th” but on her 33-1/3 RPM (revolutions per minute) LP (long-playing) vinyl recording also called My Name Is Barbra she said “on April 24th” and it turns out that the latter is her actual birthday.

Because it’s always all about her, her, her just as this blog is all about me, me, me.

I think Barbra may be older than five in that particular picture.

Actually, I hope I have dispelled the notion that this blog is all about me, me, me over the course of the last three years. The truth is that without you, you, you this blog is just so many words. So Barbra will just have to wait her turn.

Here instead, from 1961, are the Ames Brothers singing “You, You, You.”

  1. But where is the music?
    Happy Birthday, RWP Blog!

  2. The RWP Blog thanks you, Jinksy!

When I click on the line "Barbra Streisand singing (among other things)'I'm Five!'" I get music...and a video! If you don't, I don't know what to say...or do.

Also, when I click on "the Ames Brothers singing 'You, You, You,'" I also get music...but not a video clip, just a poster that includes a stack of 45-rpm records, an octave on a keyboard, what appears to be Laverne DeFazio dancing with Elvis Presley, coin slots for a jukebox, and a green lobster. I go to great lengths to keep my public happy.

  3. Well done, Robert - that's a great achievement. Long may you blog on. x

  4. I suppose Laverne DeFazio would be dancing with Carmine DeSapio. And Shirley Feeney would be dancing with Lenny and Squiggy.

  5. I prefer the Doobie Brothers to the Ames Brothers who collectively had a very weird appearance...
"We were meant for each other
    Sure as heaven's above"
    But don't tell Miss Ellie!
    Happy third anniversary Robert!

  6. Thanks for your kind comments on my writing ability. I was compelled to become a follower of your blog as there seem to be so few of us who have remained married. We will be clocking up 43years in December, so I remember Barbra way back when. You list at least two of my favourite films "Some Like it Hot" and "To Kill a Mockingbird" so I'm sure we are going to get along. We have a son and daughter and four grandchildren who we adore spending time with when work allows. I'll be following your blog with interest.

  9. Happy birthday to your blog. I have no idea when my blog started, since I discontinued it at one point, and then re-continued it, and then posted stuff that preceded its original birth date.

Masia Mum, my 39th wedding anniversary will be in December. Since Rhymes likes your writing so much, I consider that sufficient recommendation to pay you a visit.

  10. I would like to publicly apologize to Elizabeth, whose comment I completely missed in my previous response. I was all caught up with my own thoughts of Laverne and Elvis and simply overlooked you, Elizabeth. It was certainly not on purpose. Please forgive me, and please continue to comment here. You are an important part of this blog.

  11. Happy Birthday to you :)
Poor Barbara but she is good with makeup and she changes very nicely.
Wish we all could transform this way just as easily.

  12. And still the blogiversary greetings come! Thank you Putz (I think), Snowbrush, and A Lady's Life.

That photo of Ms. Streisand illustrates the reason for the existence of the cosmetics industry, in my opinion. Perhaps she was on a shoot for a movie. Not many women would go out in public looking like that.

  13. Congratulations good sir. What an achievement! You are the most prolific blogger I know, I only wish I could write as much and be as entertaining. I don't always comment on the blogs I read, sometimes reading is all I'm fit for, but I enjoy yours very much.

*sings 'For he's a jolly good fellow' and pelts him with streamers and birthday cake.

  14. Bless you. That's extremely kind of you,Robert, and shows what a lovely gentleman you are.I can quite understand how the picture of Elvis gyrating his hips with Laverne made you come over all unnecessary. Think no more about it.My love to you. xxx
May I also say to Masia Mum,a belated but sincere, "G'mar Hatimah Tovah" x

  15. Congratulations Robert! Three years blogging is worth celebrating.

WV is 'bacqnqu' which is Norweigian for 'a feast to celebrate blogging'.

  16. Congratulations! And Jubilations! as I think Cliff Richard, who isn't really called Cliff Richard but I've forgotten his real name and perhaps he has too, sang once. I'm singing it now. For you! You must be so happy you can't hear it ;-)
May you, you, you be posting for many more years.

    X

  17. More thanks go to All Consuming (I have only three children, so I'm not really all that prolific), Elizabeth (La Shana Tovah I know but not G'mar Hativah Tovah, but then you weren't talking to me), Katherine (bacqnqu is really Norwegian for "bacon coup," a fortuitous increase in the wholesale price of pork bellies), and Carolina (I think the guy's name was Cliff Richards, with an 's' and I wist I could hear you sing that song),

I, I, I would like to post, post, post for quite some time yet, but one never knows. My blogging friend Dr. John Linna of Neenah, Wisconsin, who died suddenly last February, wrote on Feb. 9th of this year, "Sometimes I think I live in a Soap Opera" and ended the post with "We could call it 'Life Goes On Anyway!'" -- and they turned out to be the last four words he ever posted.

Let us endeavor to be kind to one another, to treat one another as we would wish to be treated, and not to take one another for granted.

  18. Bob, it means literally, 'a good final sealing' or idiomatically, 'may you be sealed in the book of life for good'. Neither 'G'mar' (root - 'to finish') or Hativah (chatimah - 'a seal or signature', appear in the Bible, but both appear in the Talmud. You may have heard the word,'chotemet' meaning 'an ink stamp?' It derives from 'chatimah.'

As I'm sure you know, The days of repentance are divided into two parts: The first, the inscribing begins on Rosh Hashana and finishes at Yom Kippur when the final "sealing" (chatima) of the Jewish fate takes place. Some scholars give an extra extension of 12 days to get it right, until a really final sealing on Hoshana Rabba (the 7th day of Sukkot). Hope that's clear.

Anyway up,I'm still wishing Masia Mum a belated 'Happy New Year' and I go along with your last statement, wholeheartedly. As that great theologian, Thumper, in 'Bambi' said,"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Thank you, Bob, for a very, precious day, when I've got to know and appreciate you a lot better and treasured our sharing and conversation...it has been good.

Oh, one final thing; Cliff Richard was born 'Harry Webb!'.

My love to you and Ellie. xxx

  19. Cliff Richards/Cliff Richard/Harry Webb (thank you Elizabeth) will be pleased someone knows his name.

'Let us endeavor to be kind to one another, to treat one another as we would wish to be treated, and not to take one another for granted.' Well said :-)

  20. A belated happy blogaversary!

Ms. Streisand is showing her age, but I hope her vocal cords are holding up. I have enjoyed her singing for many years(particularly those songs in which she sings counterpoint to classical airs.) [wondering where I've put my old Streisand cassette tapes - it's time for a re-listen]
