Jethro, you may qualify for a government grant.

So said the e-mail I received the other day. Fortunately, my ISP (Internet Service Provider) kindly and accurately put it into my spam folder, but still...

There it was, plain as day: Jethro, you may qualify for a grant.

Here’s the rest of the message:

“How can you take advantage of your own tax dollars?
Apply for a government grant!
Each year thousands of people just like you receive grant money from the government.
Federal grants can be used for:

* Individuals, housing, healthcare
* Education for minorities
* Small businesses, Non-profits, and more!

Why not see if you qualify? Apply now!
Apply for a government grant today!”

There is a Jethro residing at my address. He has lived here for nearly five years now.

The only problem is, this is Jethro:

I believe the operative word in that offer is may...

Mr. Internet Peddler, Jethro appreciates it, really he does, but please take your wares elsewhere! If I'm not mistaken, there’s a black Labrador down the road from me who has a few tax dollars to spare.

  2. One has to wonder how such phishers came across Jethro's name in the first place. Boggles the mind, it does.

    Jethro is a handsome dog.

  3. L. L., it's Jethro, not Lethro! Jethro is often mistaken for a Lhasa Apso or a Shih-tzu mix of some kind, but he is not. He is Havanese, which makes him a distant relative to Bichon Frise, Poodle, and Maltese. Also, he may qualify for a government grant.

    YP, word.

    Pat, I wondered the same thing.

  4. LOL. What would we do without the world of spam and spyware?

  5. I added a one-sentence paragraph but put it in the wrong place because the little box I was typing in was so small, so now I have to start over.

    It's a heckuva a world when a perfectly respectable dog is forbidden--by his own parents no less--to apply for a government grant on the basis of species-centric behavior (i.e. bigotry) on the part of those parents.

    It's also a heckuva a world when a perfectly respectable blogger can't link to his Georgia, USA friend's blog because his own blog is found to have "inappropriate content."

    That's two strikes against the word already today, yet it's only early morning in the Ukraine.

    The only thing I want to know is which parent Jethro looks the most like.

  6. Jewels, I have a feeling we would do quite nicely without the world of spam and spyware!

    Snowman, since I agree with Pat that Jethro is "a handsome dog," he obviously looks most like me. Mrs. RWP does not look like a dog of any kind.

  7. My last schnauzer and I won first prize in a contest for "Dog that looks most like it Master" (the second prize went to a rotund priest with a St. Bernard). I in no way think that that a woman should be insulted to be told that she resembles a dog look unless, of course, the dog is ugly--a Pekingese, for example.

  8. Awww, Jethro is adorable. He reminds me of my dog, Abby. She was a cockapoo/terrior mix and was the best dog I ever had. Thanks for sharing the picture. I'd give Jethro a grant! Vera

  9. Welcome, Vera, to the comments section of my blog! The more the merrier, I always say. (Truth in blogging: Since you are, in the words of your own profile, a truth-teller, I shall do likewise: I do not always say that. Just sometimes.)

  10. You need to watch that Jethro isn't giving out his name and address to his lady-friends on the web, those social networking sites make the innocents like him easy prey for scams. Tell him if they say they are Russian ladies who want to bear his puppies he should steer clear ;p

  11. All Consuming, I don't care how many Russian ladies want to bear Jethro's puppies, it ain't gonna happen. Let's just say that if he were a singer, he would be a soprano. So your advice to him to "steer" clear is eerily accurate.
