For my 800th post...

I have decided to dispense with words and savor the moment.

Take a deep breath. Hold it for a second. Let it out slowly.

Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I know what let’s do.

Let’s have another relaxing ride with Daniel Barlow! (8:30). (Don’t forget to right-click your mouse at the beginning and select Enter Full Screen.)

There, now. Let’s take a little poll. Rate the scenery in the video on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is Spectacular, 5 is Nice, but it’s not Myrtle Beach and 1 is What scenery? I feared for my life and just wanted to get back to civilization in one piece!

I found the views breathtaking, but I must admit the old tension seems to have returned.

  1. Congratulations on your blogging milestone!

This viewer gives the scenery a rating of 7. I would use that trail for hiking.

  2. Thank you, Jeannelle, for being one of my first blog buddies. I hope Iowa is getting back to normal now that the Republican candidates for President in 2012 have all left your fair state.

  3. Congratulations on your 800th post. So much variety - almost unbelievable. Here's to the next 800 posts!

  4. Thank you, Sir (I thought it was Lord) Pudding, for your kind remarks. You've been at this blogging business for several years longer than moi -- since June 23, 2005, in fact (I checked). If memory serves, the day of your debut was the 36th anniversary of the great Unbundling (separation of marketing of software and hardware) that was forced on IBM (my employer) by the U. S. government on June 23, 1969, a day that will live in Big Blue infamy.

  5. Congratulations!

The scenery is a definite 9.0, although I was keeping my eyes on the track most of the time. My backside was sore fro all those bumps and rocks!

Exactly how high were they? It looked to be at least a kilometre.

  6. Parrots, your question prompted me to check it out. This website states that Ben Lomond Mountain's elevation is 9,712 ft (2,960 m) and its prominence (rise above the surrounding land) is 1,545 ft (471 m), or just under half a "kilometre"...and now we both know.

  7. First, hearty congratulations upon reaching this blogging milestone. May you live long, and prosper (flashing the Vulcan greeting). I hope I'm around to read the next 800.

Watching the video elicited several 'good grief!' vocalizations from this viewer. The scenery is magnificent but, unlike Jeannelle, I would not use that trail for hiking, at least the 'good grief' portions of it. The thought crossed my mind that the first foolhardy person to ride this trail must have followed the tracks of a mountain goat (did I see one, briefly, in the distance?)

You certainly DO provide a variety of subjects for our browsing enjoyment.

  8. Congratulations on your 800th post. And they were all very interesting, informative and/or funny too (I'm guessing, based on your posts I did read). I'll be looking forward to reading most of the next 800 posts.

Thanks for the invitation to the bike ride. Relaxing isn't the word I would have chosen. Exciting and breathtaking I thought. The biker that isn't filming is just a wee boy isn't he? Again... glad I'm not his mom ;-)

  9. Pat, always remember that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one (except, of course, when the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many). Can you name the two Star Trek movies those axioms are from? Daniel Barlow, if I may say so, and I mean no disrespect, seems more interested in the needs of the one.

Yes, I saw the mountain goat too, or bighorn sheep, or whatever it was.

Carolina, American westerners are definitely a breed apart. I can't imagine that the wee boy's parents would allow him to have done this, even with his uncle.

  10. Congratulations on your 800th. Did Blogger bake you a cake? Do you plan to share it?

  11. Thanks for answering my question. It still looks a lot higher to me!

  12. Thanks, Snowbrush, if I knew you were coming, I'd have baked a cake, only I didn't (know) and so I didn't (bake one), and neither, to my knowledge, did Blogger. If there is a virtual cake floating around somewhere in Blogland that has my name on it, you are certainly virtually welcome to cut you off a virtual piece with lots of virtual icing and virtually eat it.

Since you didn't have one ready for me before I had to return to Oregon, I'll send you my address. May I suggest overnight air?

  14. P.S. I can just hear you saying--in answer to my question--"Sure, you can suggest anything you please, but just don't hold your breath."

  15. Elizabeth, thank you. I soon will have been blogging for four years. It doesn't seem possible.
