  2. Oh, my, the big five-o. I wish I could confidently say, "Here's to your second fifty," but I don't know if she could put up with you that long.

  3. We have so much in common!! We reach our 50th in December. It has flown by, hasn't it? But I am so thankful for all the friends and wonderful memories God has blessed us with over the years. You two are part of that and I hope we don't ever lose touch. Congratulations and many blessings to you both. You are so beautiful and handsome in your picture. Love, Sharon

  5. The world was a different place back then. 1963 saw the 1st flight of the Boeing 727, 1st Class postage went from 4c to 5c, Alcatraz closed, the Beatles cut their first album, Winston Churchill became the 1st honorary US citizen, Zip Codes were introduced, black students entered public schools, 'My Favorite Martian' debuted on TV, 6 yr old Donny Osmund sang on Andy Williams show, Bell Telephone introduced the push button phone and President Kennedy was assassinated. (I was only 4 years old at the time). Congratulations to you and the lovely Mrs. RWP. May God richly bless you both in your next 50 :-)

  9. Y.P., the amazing thing is how fast 50 years have passed (looking at them from this end). From the other end, of course, that possibility seemed light years away. Hindsight is everything.

  13. So beautiful, and a wonderful tribute to hard work, patience and the forgiveness necessary to stay married for 50 years! Thank you for the inspiration. God bless you both.

  14. Lady's Life, thank you very much! (BC, Canada, heard from loud and clear!)

Amina! It's so good to hear from you! I have been retired from Big Blue for 13 years now, which have gone by almost as fast as the 50 that that Ellie and I have spent together. How do you like living in New York?

LightExpectations, this will probably sound cynical (I don't mean it that way), but only two things are necessary to stay married for 50 years: Don't die and don't leave. To have a HAPPY 50 years, though, is what requires the hard work, patience and forgiveness -- every day, from both parties. Thank you so much for your kind words.

  17. I'm glad you put a link up in one of your recent posts to this, I love the photograph. It's nice to have a peek into someone's history, and I'm also glad you appear to be as happy now as you were then. Some things are keepers. I didn't get married until I was thirty nine, because I had no intention of ever getting divorced. It took that long to find him, but it was worth the wait.

  18. Carol in Cairns, thank you! We were happy then, and we're still happy now! The dress is beautiful, isn't it?

All Consuming, re "I'm also glad you appear to be as happy now as you were then." I was just saying that to Carol in Cairns. I'm glad it shows.
