And so it begins...

Today our house is getting its first paint job since 2003.

  1. Eleven years isn't a long time, and why are you doing it in the winter? Inquiring minds want to know.

  2. Have you won the Georgia State Lottery? Getting a painting company in to do the job must be horrendously expensive. By the way I just spotted this review for Salomon's Paint Company..."They spilled paint all over our driveway and then tried to double their original estimate. One of the guys - called Felippe kept whistling at our teenage daughter and making lewd suggestions to my wife. They got paint all over the windows of our bedroom and used the wrong colour too. I have always hated Barbie pink!" So I hope things go well for you and Mrs B.

  3. Good luck. I am so over tradesmen, and would do quite a lot to never have to welcome them into my home again.

  4. Snowbrush, eleven years is a long time when the developers of the subdivision didn't use quality paint on their new houses. Also, "winter" is a relative term; although last week was blustery and grey with temperatures well below freezing, this week has been more like summer than fall (71 degrees Fahrenheit today). I'm hoping for a mild winter.

Yorkie Bear, no, we did not win the Georgia State Lottery, but some things just have to be done. Salomon and his people did a wonderful job and things went very well.

All Consuming (Michelle), why, thank you very much, kind lady!

Elephant's Child (Sue), we had a very good experience with these folk, not at all like the horrors you encountered recently.

I appreciate your answer. My Dad and I used to paint houses, and I've been in this house 24 years and only painted it twice. It's far from needing another paint job, although I touch up places that have damage. My question was based upon the fact that one can only paint a surface so many times before the build-up is such that all the paint has to be removed. Of course, neither you nor I will have to worry about that.

  6. You home is lovely. A good paint job is one more thing for which to be thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your sweet missus.

  7. As the wife of a construction contractor, I will say that sometimes paint quality isn't under the control of the contractor. My husband used to build cabinets and finish them himself. Laws were passed and mixtures changed so that cabinet finishes no longer hold up at all, (even in our own house) because they have 'greened up' the chemicals you're allowed to use.
Beautiful home, by the way :-)

Hilltop, these painters were excellent and we hope the paint is too.

How’s that again?

I did not make this up. Here is an honest-to-God, actual sentence that someone here in Georgia, in all seriousness, included in a Facebook...
