It’s [] my party [] not my party (pick one) and I’ll [] laugh [] cry [] yawn (pick one) if I want to

Here are 23 maps with accompanying text that will help explain to Americans and non-Americans alike what the heck has gone on politically in the U.S. for the past two hundred years:

Take a few minutes and learn something. Click on the link.

I found the information fascinating (and something even rarer nowadays, accurate) , but then I am weird.

  1. I will have to come back and investigate when time is (more) on my side.
Mind you, I suspect that there have been political parties in the UK for longer than the Democrats have existed/mutated/evolved...

  2. If I were American I would always vote for The Democrats and I would stalk Republicans in order to beat them up in dark alleyways. Bif! Biff! "Take that you selfish, conservative bounder! There are other people in this land apart from you and your like! The Democrats are of the people and for the people!"

    1. Actually it was Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president, who spoke of government of the people, by the people. And for the people.

  3. I shall check out the link. A lot of folks may just wonder what the heck is American politics all about in the present day. It saddens me to find out that Americans are knowingly made homeless with little or no help.

    In peace and thank you,

  4. I found it crazy-making to grow up in Mississippi where the Democrat party was the party of choice on the local conservative scene, yet was the liberal party on the national scene.

What are all of those funny-looking rectangle in your title? Are they substitutes for profanity?

And you let this pass your censers??? Ha, I love it. The only trouble is that it would just create sympathy for the Republicans and hence more Republicans. They would become as prolific as fire ants and kudzu are in the South, which, in the South, they already are.

  6. Thank you all for commenting. I shall now answer Snowbrush's questions:

Those "funny-looking rectangle" thingies in my title are not funny-looking rectangles at all. They are BOXES TO BE CHECKED (no, I am not shouting). The phrase "pick one" also appears in my title more than once, so it is obvious to the careful reader.

Methodists don't have censers like the EO and RCC. We have Boy Scout Sunday instead. If you're asking why I didn't censor (note spelling) Yorkshire Pudding, it is because he prefers to be hoist on his own petard.

In my school, we checked circles, not boxes; on their voting ballots, voters check circles, not boxes; and when I feel out medical forms, insurance forms, DMV forms, and every other kind of form I've ever seen, I check circles not boxes. This makes you the ONLY PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD who not only expects people to check boxes, but gives then boxes that can't even be checked.

  8. Snowbrush, I believe I detect that you have drunk too much spiked eggnog this holiday season. First, you are obsessing on post that is going on three weeks old and ignoring more recent posts. Second, when I say "check boxes" I mean as with an "X". If I had used circles, I would have said "fill in" instead of "check". Third, I have never seen voting ballots that have circles. Only SAT answer sheets have circles and students are instructed to use NUMBER 2 PENCILS ONLY. I never said a word about number 2 pencils. Our voting ballots here in Georgia are on computerized touch screens with square boxes and when you touch the square box of your choice, AN "X" APPEARS IN THE FORMERLY BLANK BOX (NOT CIRCLE). I am still not shouting, but I may begin shortly.

You have a happy new year now, you hear? But stay away from the eggnog and spiking fluids of all kinds.
