...but what you are about to read is unbelievable. It is impossible. It is ridiculous. It is also true.
Donnie Osmond is now eligible to receive Medicare.
He turned 65 on December 9th, exactly one week before Ludwig van Beethoven, if he were still alive, would have turned 252.
But Beethoven, who was born in Bonn in 1770, died in Vienna in 1827 at the age of 56, so he never was able to receive Medicare, mainly because it was not available back then, and even if it had been available and he had been 65 instead of 56 he still would not have been eligible to receive it because he was German, not American.
This blog is nothing if not educational.
Hello, world! This blog began on September 28, 2007, and so far nobody has come looking for me
with tar and feathers.
On my honor, I will do my best not to bore you. All comments are welcome
as long as your discourse is civil and your language is not blue.
Happy reading, and come back often!
And whether my cup is half full or half empty, fill my cup, Lord.

ReplyDeletelive in 2023?
Emma, for many years I thought I might not live past 47 because that was my mother's age when she died. Then I thought I might not live past 60 because that was my Dad's age when he died. Now it is 2023 and I am not just threescore and ten but very close to threescore and twenty-two (it will happen in March). I suppose the next "milestone" is fourscore and seven.a la Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. I do realize at this point that every day is a gift. Perhaps I will outlive my grandfather (nearly 96) or even Georgia's own Dr. Leila Denmark (114) about whom I have written before.
DeleteBut Donnie Osmond on Medicare? It still seems unthinkable!
I didn't realise that Donny Osmond had ever won any medals nor that there was a company that specifically cared for medals. Happy New Year Bob!
ReplyDeleteNeil, I'm sure that was just a lame attempt to be amusing, but just in case you really are that dense, let me hasten to enlighten you. Medicare has nothing to do with Medal care, it refers to government-subsidized Medical care provided when a person reaches the age of 65 in the United States.
DeleteP.S. -- And a Happy New Year to you as well!
Delete"Lame"? I expect you were splitting your sides with unbridled mirth.
DeleteP.S. I did know about Medicare. Does it assist those of us who suffer from denseness?
DeleteThe potential comments on the Beethoven theme are endless. By the way who is Donny Osmond?
ReplyDeleteGraham, you have obviously lived a sheltered life. The BBC once did a documentary on him when he was visiting Wales. He sang in The Osmonds (six brothers), had a television show with his sister Marie, starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Broadway, was a teen idol, always wore purple socks, has a "Mr. Clean" image because of his Church of Latter-Day Saints of Jesus Christ (that is, Mormon) beliefs, has five sons, had quite a few hit songs and gold records. I could so on and on. Who is Donnie Osmond? Just another rich American, I suppose. Nobody special..
