I'm not saying it is and I'm not saying it isn't

...but the time for stopping this blog may be drawing near. One never knows. One just tries to go with the flow, and some days the flow is more like molasses (British: treacle) than spring water.

It's a long, long time from May to December, and the days grow short when you reach September.

So I've heard, and I partially believe it.

All three of my children are now over 50 years of age. My six grandchildren have all graduated from high school. Two of them have finished college and the other four are actively pursuing their degrees.

My new puppy is three already.

Time flies when you're having fun.

Ellie and I are working on Year 57 of The Rhymeswithplague Chronicles.

I have some very faithful readers whom I don't want to disappoint. Snowbrush in Oregon, Emma in Iowa, Pam in Washington State, for example. There are Kylie and Sue in Australia, Neil and Michelle in England, Adrian and Graham in Scotland. Red in Canada leaves an occasional comment, and so do Frances (England) and Kate (New Zealand). That nice lady in British Columbia used to, but she hasn't dropped by lately. Gary in England comments every once in a while. Elizabeth in England stays in touch via Facebook these days because the blogger gods continue to throw roadblocks in her path.

Not a huge crowd -- and there are others I'm forgetting, I'm sure -- but a faithful group who have enriched my life by hanging in there.

Not literally, of course. Figuratively.

Do send me a photo if you are hanging in there literally. I'd love to see it.

Some were here for a season but have vanished. Carol in Cairns. Carolina in Nederland. Daphne. Silverback. Helsie. Dr. John. Putz.

Some have shuffled off this mortal coil (to coin a phrase) and some have not shuffled off quite yet but neither have they checked in lately.

As Yul Brynner in the role of the King of Siam in The King and I so famously said, "Is...a puzzlement!"

Today I am waxing nostalgic and wondering what the future may hold.

I'm counting on the future being bright, at least for a while yet.

Stay tuned.

In closing, I want to say that I do understand that three, count 'em, three posts in a whole month do not a scintillating blog or a bestseller make.

If you think this is the most boring post you have read in a very long time, kindly keep it to yourself.

No, tell me. At least I'll know you're there.

  1. Other than the cliches I enjoyed and understood it. I have cur way back on blogging. It is a form of writer's block perhaps. I had a strict schedule of two posts per week. It became too much like a job which I couldn't deal with. I will eventually come back with more of a schedule. For now I need to minister to myself. You need to do what you decide is best for you. I hope you will still post at least occasionally but that is more for me than for you. Whatever you decide to do I hope you will stay in touch.

    1. Emma, only five days have passed since I wrote this post and the thoughts of stopping have gone away or at least subsided temporarily. What I probably need is to find a new rhythm, a perfect interval between posts, if there is such a thing. I'm sure each person's interval is different, unique to him or her (or xim or xer, whatever). Thank you for your encouragement.

  2. Hello RWP. I am a new follower here. I discovered your blog through Yorkshire Pudding where I enjoyed the lively discourse between the two of you. I would hate to see you stop blogging but at the same time I understand we all should do what is right for us personally. I do not have a blog for fear I would not keep up with it or I would have nothing to say. I do enjoy following many blogs for they are such good contact with others across the world.

I know some that only blog once a week somewhat like a condensed version of more frequent blogs. Maybe that would be something you could try? At any rate, I have enjoyed what I've read of your past posts and I wish you well in whatever you decide to do.

    1. Bonnie, thank you for commenting. I think this is not your first comment, if I'm remembering correctly. I'm glad you have added yourself to the group here. I wonder what you mean my "lively discourse" between Yorkshire Pudding and me, but it sound better than "dead Discourse" at any rate.

I will repeat what I said to Emma above: Only five days have passed since I wrote this post and the thoughts of stopping have gone away or at least subsided temporarily. What I probably need is to find a new rhythm, a perfect interval between posts, if there is such a thing. I'm sure each person's interval is different, unique to him or her (or xim or xer, whatever). Thank you for your encouragement.

  3. Keep counting on a bright future.
Blogging, like many other things, has a season, and sometimes life gets in the way. Which is as it should be.

    1. Sue/EC, a blogging season. I like the ring of it. As I said to the commenters above, only five days have passed since I wrote this post and the thoughts of stopping have gone away or at least subsided temporarily. What I probably need is to find a new rhythm, a perfect interval between posts, if there is such a thing. I'm sure each person's interval is different, unique to him or her (or xim or xer, whatever). 4. I enjoy your blog although I don't comment very often. It's good to stop once in a while and take a reading on things. However from my point of view , keep blogging. You have a unique blog and it's always interesting to see what you have to say.

    1. Red, how are things in Alberta or Saskatchewan (I forget which)? It's always good to hear from you. Here is a little boilerplate I came up with to respond to comments on this post:

  5. Don't say you're stopping because the minute you say it six posts will pop in your brain and burn to be written.
I feel like I've seen helsie around lately but then the time goes and it could be three years......

    1. kylie, you speak truth about stopping and six posts popping up. Regarding Helsie, I think I saw a comment from her recently on Yorkshire Pudding's blog to the effect that she and Tony had just completed a month-long vacation in Norway.

Here is a little boilerplate I came up with to respond to comments on this post (just to reduce the pressure on my feeble mind, of course):

  6. If "Rhymes with Plague" went out of my life, it would be like losing one of my big toes. This was not a boring post. It stopped me in my tracks and made me wonder what my mobility would be like with one big toe missing. Although "Yorkshire Pudding" is not the most popular place of pilgrimage in the blogosphere I do enjoy a small cohort of visitors and I will be very happy to create a special advertisement with the aim of directing some of my people your way. Just say the word Robert H.

    1. Neil/YP, losing a big toe does not sound like fun and might even cause one to hobble around like Walter Brennan in those old movies. Thank you, but please refrain from creating a special advertisement directing some of your people my way as I believe that those who are meant to find me will find me (Bonnie, for instance).

  7. Firstly I do hope that you don't stop posting for a few reasons: I'd miss your posts even though I am not the most regular visitor to Blogland when I'm very busy with visitors etc; I think it would be a shame for you because you obviously enjoy the occasional foray into Blogland; and thirdly because you almost certainly have more visitors than you realise. I know that I have quite a few people who read my posts and send me an occasional message, email or letter but never comment.

    1. Graham aka My Friend In The Outer Hebrides, thank you for your comment, although I did struggle to detect a secondly between your firstly and your thirdly.
