The expectation versus the reality

I had high hopes that my grandson's years at university would be something like this:

The University of Illinois Men's Glee Club sings "Gaudeamus Igitur" (1:36)

But so far they are turning out to be more like this:

That's him, er, he with the DU on his palms.

Oh, well -- you're only young once.

  1. He looks good. As long as his grades are good he should have gun.

  2. Is Duke University named after your hero - The Duke of Edinburgh? He was wild in his youth too but he didn't have a gun - except when shooting grouse and pheasants.

  3. I like that shade of blue, it is like the French football team color “les Bleus.” As for Duke University I read a long time ago, while reading about the robber barons of the gilded age, that it had been named after James Buchanan Duke, a uber wealthy tobacco businessman, or after the Duke family.

Thanks for coming to my blog and writing an interesting comment. My nephew from Indiana answered your comment and I would copy it here but it is quite long, you may wish to come and read it.

  4. Yorkshire Pudding, see Vagabonde's comment above for the answer to your tongue-in-cheek question.

Vagabonde, thank you for alerting me to your nephew's comment on your blog. I have left another comment there as well. I'm glad we can discuss the subject coolly and calmly, without rancor or rising blood pressure!
