Today was the first time Mrs. RWP and I have ever "binge watched" anything. For 12 straight hours, from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., we watched Dr. Jeff, Rocky Mountain Vet on the Animal Planet channel.
Yes, we did.
And in so doing we managed to avoid Fraklin Graham's prayer walk from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol buulding in Washington, D.C. with 50,000 of his closest friends as well as President Trump's announcement that he was nominating Judge Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to replace the recently deceased Ruth Bader Ginsburg as an associate justice on the Supreme Court.
So the day was not ompletely wasted.
Our heads are now filled with images of dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, camels, turtles, chinchillas, ferrets, and various other members of the animal kingdom. And although we did not see a single parrot, cockatoo, owl, iguana, or python on this go-round, the political season is not over yet.
There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Hello, world! This blog began on September 28, 2007, and so far nobody has come looking for me
with tar and feathers.
On my honor, I will do my best not to bore you. All comments are welcome
as long as your discourse is civil and your language is not blue.
Happy reading, and come back often!
And whether my cup is half full or half empty, fill my cup, Lord.

Post-election thoughts
Here are some mangled aphorisms I have stumbled upon over the years: 1. If you can keep your head when all anout you are losing thei...
It's one way of avoiding the buggers not having a TV is another.
ReplyDeleteAdrian, what you say is true.
DeleteTwelve hours? That is dedication!
ReplyDeletekylie, we ate two meals sitting in front of the television. The episodes actually went on for another seven hours, but we had to get some sleep!
DeleteWe do it every once in awhile. I like your idea. Much more pleasant than 12 hours of the violence of Peaky Blinders. A happy 12 hours, uplifting.
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, I can only take an episode of Peaky Blinders about every two weeks.
Linda, I must admit to never having heard of Peaky Blinders although it is now in its sixth season (I checked). We have not watched series television in years and years. My favorites from “the old days” include Thirty-something, Judging Amy, My So-Called Life, Northern Exposure, Six Feet Under, Twin Peals, and the like. Quirky stuff. You know, like me.
DeleteWhen I think of Franklin Graham I wonder what his father would think. Billy Graham may have had political preferences but he never voiced them. He believed that in his position as a religious leader it was more important to support his faith than to support a candidate.
ReplyDeleteEmma, I do think that Franklin’s charity, Samaritan’s Purse, does good work when disasters occur.
DeleteAn election year is the perfect time to binge watch programs. A pandemic is also the perfect time. When you have an election year, a pandemic and everything else that has been included in 2020, binge watching is one of the few ways to save your sanity!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, we do seem to be in or approaching the perfect storm, which makes ideal conditions for binge-watching. My sanity is intact!
DeleteBonnie, it is good to know that our sanity (which others, I’m sure, were beginning to question) is safe!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed watching Dr Jeff. I have never seen the show, but almost anything is better than what is happening in our country now. I have never bing watched anything unless you count the Lord of the Rings movies over several days.
ReplyDelete“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Kathy, I agree that watching all three of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films iwould be similar to binge watching. Those words that Tolkien put into Gandalf’s mouth are one of my all-time favorite quotations.
ReplyDeleteI think the only series I can recall binge watching some years ago was West Wing. I've watched it three times from start to finish and aim to make it four before I pop my clogs.
ReplyDeleteGraham, I was always drawn to quirky series like Northern Exposure, Twin Peaks, My So-Called Life, Six Feet Under, and the like. I don’t know whether they were ever shown in the UK.
