The high temperature in Canton, Georgia, USA today was 91°F (32.8°C) but with humidity at 60% it felt like 97°F (36.1°C). This is known locally as "a beautifuly summer day."
It's too hot to post anything else.
How do you stay cool when the weather is hot?
Readers for whom it is now winter may answer the question "How do you stay warm when the weather is cold?" instead, if you like.
Extra credit will be given if both types of readers answer both questions.
If it's too hot or cold to answer any questions, I will try to understand.
But it won't be easy.
Hello, world! This blog began on September 28, 2007, and so far nobody has come looking for me
with tar and feathers.
On my honor, I will do my best not to bore you. All comments are welcome
as long as your discourse is civil and your language is not blue.
Happy reading, and come back often!
And whether my cup is half full or half empty, fill my cup, Lord.

Post-election thoughts
Here are some mangled aphorisms I have stumbled upon over the years: 1. If you can keep your head when all anout you are losing thei...
In the sweaty season (which I loathe) I hunker down inside and tray and do as little as possible. When I can I go only out at first light when it is coolest.
ReplyDeleteI revel in winter. I feel more alive and MS doesn't thrive (for me) in the cold. Except when I went to Antarctica in 2004 I haven't had a coat on in decades.
I hope you get a break from the heat. Soon.
Elephant's Child (Sue), you tray? If that is not a typo, I confess that I don't know what you mean.
DeleteWhen I was growing up in Texas, people tried to do all their household chores and yard work by about 8:30 in the morning. Otherwise, it was just too darned hot until the sun went down. I am not even kidding.
I can't even imagine Antarctica.
It's that humidity that will get you every time! I hope it cools off for you soon. If not, stay in and I hope your air conditioning is good!
ReplyDeleteWe are currently under an "Excessive Heat Warning" for the next four days in our area. Temps are running in the upper 90s but luckily we have not seen the triple digits yet. I don't think I'll be cutting the grass this weekend. I stay cool by staying inside, drinking lots of water and cool drinks and once in awhile I'll eat a frozen fruit bar. It really does help to drink a lot of water though!
Bonnie, funny you should mention air conditioning. Ours went out on Tuesday and we couldn't get it repaired until Thursday evening. It goes without saying that those were three miserable days. We kept all of the blinds and shutters closed and used ceiling fans and an oscillating fan on a stand that had been stored in the garage for years to move the air around so that we could breathe.
DeleteSpeaking of Texas (as I was to Sue above), one thing you can do when it gets super hot is to take a cold, wet washcloth and put it on the back of your your neck, your forehead forehead, and your wrists. Those Texans came up with some nifty solutions (which do not include Lyndon Baines Johnson).
When it is too hot I turn on the air conditioner. When it is too cold I turn on the furnace. I love modern conveniences.
ReplyDeleteEmma,, you have contributed what I would call a definite "first-world answer" to the discussion. You get an E for effort. But try to answer again without resorting to such artificial devices as air conditioners and furnaces.
DeleteIf it's cold turn up the heating and wear appropriate clothing.moving about will help you keep warm.
ReplyDeleteThe reverse applies when the weather is unbearably hot. Keeping still and quiet in a cool room and an overhead fan is great for keeping the air moving. And cold drinks.
It's winter here now so I'm sitting by the heater.
Alphie
Alphie Soup, for the first part of your answer, see my reply to Emma above. And for purposes of this post, verhead fans are allowed, but air conditioners are not. Don't ask me why as I have no idea.
DeleteFor keeping warm, appropriate clothing includes layering.
