...because (a) I am in the world but not of the world according to Jesus Christ and (b) keeping up with myself is a full-time job.

P.S. - As a response to a question from Tasker Dunham in the comments section (Who are the Kardashians?), I am adding several articles about them below for your edification.
Kardashian family
Kim Kardashian
Khloé Kardashian
The Kardashians
If you can't be bothered reading all of that, you might find these facts interesting: Kris Kardashian's husband, Robert Kardashian, was one of O.J. Simpson's lawyers (along with the well-known attorney Robert Shapiro) at O.J.'s trial for murder. After Kris and Robert Kardashian were divorced, Kris married Bruce Jenner, the American athlete who won the gold medal in the decathlon in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Bruce is known today as Caitlin Jenner for reasons of his/her own.

Hello, world! This blog began on September 28, 2007, and so far nobody has come looking for me
with tar and feathers.
On my honor, I will do my best not to bore you. All comments are welcome
as long as your discourse is civil and your language is not blue.
Happy reading, and come back often!
And whether my cup is half full or half empty, fill my cup, Lord.

How soon we forget
Today is the 61st anniversary of an event that changed forever the course of American history and the world as we knew it. As far as I kno...
Who are they?
ReplyDeleteTasker, I have answered your question by adding some information into the body of the post.
DeleteI didn't really want to know.
DeleteWHO?
ReplyDeleteAdrian, go back and read the additions I made to the post. The links will explain a lot.
DeleteTa Bob. Obviously rather strange folk but not as I surmised related to Putin.
ReplyDeleteAdrian, 'rather strange' puts it very politely. They and other rather strange people are constantly being presented to the American people as being worthy of aumiration and emulation.
DeleteI too have never watched a single episode of the Kardashians and I never plan to do so!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, good for you! The presence of the meme I lifted from Facebook is an indication that many people have made the same decision.
DeleteI once asked someone who mentioned the Kardashians who they were. The reply was that they were a family famous for being famous. I have still never seen them (I'm not sure if they are even on UK TV) and don't intend to read about them because then I would have to say that I know who they are and I hope I'll never say that truthfully.
ReplyDeleteGraham, your friend is correct. The Kardashians are famous for nothing except being famous. I cannot see where they have made any contributions to society. They are super-consumers and super-exhibitionists. IMHO.
DeleteI've always been able to say that I don't know who the Kardashians are other than they are famous for being famous. I couldn't read your articles for fear of learning something that would mean that I couldn't say that I didn't know who they are. I'm not actually sure whether they are on the TV on the UK. I certainly don't know what sort of entertainment they provide. I suspect that if I did I wouldn't understand.
ReplyDeleteGraham, I don't know whether you intended to publish both of these coments but they are different enough from one another that I, your diligent moderator, approved this one as well. There are lots of strange programs on US TV, often on 'The Learning Channel' and 'The Discovery Channel'.
DeletePS I found your last paragraph utterly baffling.
ReplyDeleteGraham, please elaborate. Surely you understood the words 'attorney' and 'murder trial' and 'decathlon' and 'Olympics'....
DeleteI understood most of the individual words In fact I read many things where the individual words are straightforward. However, the order in which words are placed often confuses me.
DeleteGraham, I have rewritten the final paragraph of the post so that maybe it won't be so baffling. I think pronouns were causing the problem originally, plus I moved a phrase closer to where it ought to have been. It's a rare paragraph that couldn't do with some improvement!
DeleteIf Bruce won the decathlon as a woman but is now a man I am beginning to wonder why we bother actually having a distinction. Perhaps we should all simply identify as hermaphrodites and stop all the current confusion. On the other hand..........
DeleteGraham, it was actually just the reverse. Bruce (male) won a gold medal in the decathlon in the 1976 Olympics . I don't know if there even is a female decathlon event. His picture was on the Wheaties cereal box for several years. It astounds me that things so widely known in the US haven't made it across to the UK, or at least to the Isle of Lewis, or at least to the town of Stornoway. Bruce became Caitlyn (female) several decades letter, AFTER he married Kris Kardashian and fathered two children with her.
DeleteI don't live in the town of Stornoway. I am a country bumpkin or a Mor as we are known.
DeleteYes. I got it mixed up. Actually why on earth I ever bothered commenting on such a facile subject about which I care not one whit and knew even less (or vice versa) is quite beyond me.
Ah. I thought my first comment had disappeared without being sent. I could have saved myself the effort of re-writing it.
ReplyDeleteI have no interest in who these people are and the way they lead their lives, offer no judgement, but it makes me thankful that I don't own a television set. What I really popped on to say is, 1. It's wonderful to read of your daughter having completed her chemo; that gorgeous smile speaks volumes of joy and relief, and I pray that she continues to heal and grow stronger. 2. Wishing you, Ellie, and your beautiful family a joyous Eastertide, overflowing with love, meaning and celebration. Elizabeth x
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, it's so good to hear from you! Thank you for your kind words about our daughter and thank you also for your Easter wishes, which are certainly reciprocated.
