My blogger friend Emma Springfield in northwest Iowa (she's so far northwest in Iowa she can see South Dakota) is currently entertaining us with a series of posts about the dogs her family has had over the years. So far we have learned about Redneck, Sheba, Attila, Shaggy, Joe, and Bluto, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few more in the pipeline.
I would almost bet dollars to doughnuts that Emma does not have many (or even any) of the 19 Must Have Items For Dog Owners In 2019.
I'm just saying.
I thought our Abby was pampered, but it's oddly comforting to discover that she is downright deprived.
Hello, world! This blog began on September 28, 2007, and so far nobody has come looking for me
with tar and feathers.
On my honor, I will do my best not to bore you. All comments are welcome
as long as your discourse is civil and your language is not blue.
Happy reading, and come back often!
And whether my cup is half full or half empty, fill my cup, Lord.

Remembrance of things past (show-biz edition) and a few petty gripes
Some performing groups came in twos (the Everly Brothers, the Smothers Brothers, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Steve Lawrence and Edyie Gormé, ...
My pair are most envious.
ReplyDeleteAdrian, I keep telling myself that you are referring to Molly and Alf. You are referring to Molly and Alf, arent't you?
DeleteActually we do have the pet hair gloves. Bella loved them because they have a bit of a massaging effect. Otherwise they don't do much. And we tried the nail grinder because she did not wear her nails down much when she became ill. She hated having her nails clipped so we thought it might work. It didn't. I don't use Facebook much. It was handy for sharing family pictures.
ReplyDeleteEmma, we have the portable dog water bottle dispenser and the waterproof dog jacket and I will not admit to anything beyond that.
DeleteI am so disappointed in myself. All of the dogs I loved had a washtub for their baths, a leash, food, a ball and a ton of hugs. If we had only had all of the gadgets you mentioned they possibly would have lived longer than their 13, 15 and 12 years.
ReplyDeleteAnne in the kitchen, welcome to the blog (I think) and if you have commented before, welcome again! I see from your profile that you are in Birmingham. My daughter and her family live in north Jefferson County - small world! We have always had dogs but somehow she ended up with a cat.
DeleteDog owning has obviously gotten very expensive. We lost our dog a couple years ago and I've often thought I'd like to get another one, a dachshund perhaps. Only problem is, you've got to pay almost $1000 to acquire one....and now a huge list of 'must haves', my oh my. Life used to be simpler, lol.
ReplyDeleteHilltop (Pam), our Jethro had cost his original owner $2,000 as a pup, but he was given to us free when it was determined he couldn't be shown any more. I was prepared to pay $250 to the Humane Society for Abby, but because we adopted her in the month of December all fees had been waived thanks to a generous benefactor to the Society, a pleasant surprise to us. Way back when (around 1970) I think we paid $25 for Gigi, our black female poodle, but I can't remember ever having paid for another dog.
DeleteHarry has a a coat, collar and lead. He also has his bed, my bed and the couch on the deck. His food bowl belonged to the last dog and his water bowl was purloined from the kitchen. He's the spoiltest dog I have ever known.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is very very useful for finding or distributing funny and cute videos of....dogs!
kylie, our Abby loves to sit with us on the couch and watch the Animal Planet channel on television. She especially likes Crikey! It's The Irwins! and Pit Bulls and Parolees. (The phrase "What hath God wrought?" comes to mind.)
