Time flies whether you’re having fun or not having fun

...unless it drags, which is a post for another day.

I just noticed that I haven't posted anything in over a week. Bad blogger! Bad blogger!

The days run together in a blur. Last Thursday afternoon Mrs. RWP fell in the kitchen. She tripped over our little dog, Señorita Juanita Rosita Lolita Abigail, Abby for short. And she is short. Part Mexican chihuahua and part terrier (Jack Russell, I think), she weighs between 13 and 14 pounds. A little pudgy, but aren't we all?

You may scream, "No!" at the screen if you aren't pudgy.

I'm screaming "No!" right now because I have lost nearly 30 pounds since last June and Mrs. RWP has lost 46 so far. Each of us is, to be frank, a work in progress.

Anyway, Mrs. RWP was trying to help things along by putting Abby into her harness so that I could take her for a little walk -- I usually do it myself -- when Abby suddenly decided to dart in a different direction and over Mrs. RWP went.

She was not hurt seriously, although her knees are badly bruised. This was the second time she has fallen, the first having been a week before Thanksgiving. This time she also had a little scrape on her nose and a little gash (emphasize little) on her forehead. The nosepiece on her $750 titanium frames was bent out of shape but a trip to the optician got it straightened out nicely. I didn't want to attempt it myself for fear of breaking it off altogether.

So that was the excitement for the week.

We are praying for a little less excitement.

Our oldest son and his wife and daughter made a trip to Orlando, Florida, over the Martin Luther King Day three-day weekend. While they were there our daughter-in-law celebrated her 61st birthday. She looks about 20 years younger than that because she has always kept herself in great shape, being a ballet teacher and all. Their daughter is taking a semester away from university to participate in the Walt Disney World program for college students. I wonder if time will fly for her also.

I will try to post more often but I'm not promising anything. I know I don't respond to comments in a timely manner but there is a reason for that. I have to be at the desktop computer in our bedroom to reply to comments because my smartphone won't let me do it any more. Mrs. RWP and I usually sit in the family room when she is not tripping over Abby because that's where the television is and we can also look out the windows at people walking by on the sidewalk and cars driving up and down the street (literally up and down as our street is on a hill). If I go into the bedroom to use the computer it separates us, and neither of us is fond of that, even after almost 57 years.

I usually am on the computer in the early mornings while Mrs. RWP is still sleeping, after I have fed the dog and taken her out for her morning constitutional.

That's where I am now and what time it is now.

I suppose you don't really care, but I wanted to get it off my chest in case some of my vast reading audience is wondering where I have gone.

The answer to the question "Where have I gone?" is usually "Nowhere, at least nowhere interesting."

Yorkshire Pudding has a post up currently about how many thousands of visitors his blog has and which of his posts they visit most often. I checked my statistics just now and the largest number was 25.

We can't all be Yorkshire Pudding.

Thank God for small favors.

  1. I sometimes don't post anything for a month! I find it best not to start up my computer at all in a morning. Often I do, but I seem to get a lot more done when I don't, and more thinking.

    1. Tasker Dunham, time has continued to fly and it has been almost a week since I published this post and am just now replying to comments. Please forgive my lack of blogging manners.

If I didn't get on the computer in the morning I might not get to it all day long. It's just a fact of life.

  2. Thanks for the update. I was a little worried about you since you hadn't posted. So sorry about Mrs RWP's fall. I hope she is doing ok now.
Happy birthday to your Dil. What a fun place to celebrate, and I'm sure your grand daughter will enjoy working at the happiest place on Earth. ;)
I'm trying to talk my son into applying to the program, but he wants to do an internship at Smithsonian. Will see if that works out.
Stay safe and warm. Brrr it is cold here in the mountains of Va.

An internship at Smithsonian sounds fabulous to me. I susbscribed to the Smithsonian magazine for several years and learned a lot. The weather here is very strange for winter in Georgia. One day it is, and the next day it isn't. Mrs. RWP calls it "pneumonia weather"....

  3. I'm glad Mrs. RWP is not seriously injured although I'll bet she felt seriously injured at the time. Keep an eye on those strolling past your windows. People watching is a favorite of mine.

Mrs. RWP had some doozies of bruises on both of her legs, a scab on her nose, and a cut on her forehead. She seems to be doing better now. We bought a different, lighter-weight harness for Abby, one that she can wear all the time so we wouldn't have to be putting it on and taking it off every time she went outdoors. We're hoping it puts an end to Mrs. RWP's falls.

  4. You and Mrs. RWP do not need that kind of excitement! I sure hope she was not seriously hurt. I bet she has some nasty bruises.

I love to see your posts but how often you post is a personal decision and I think it is very nice of you to want to stay in the family room with your wife. The frequency of posting is a subject that I thought about long and hard before finally starting a blog myself. I didn't want to feel pressured to post x number of times a week or even a month. I think that can quickly take the fun out of any activity. I'm still learning and kind of taking it as it comes as far as blogging goes. I just enjoy keeping in touch with so many nice people in the blogging world!

Give my best to Mrs. RWP and I hope both of you and Abby are doing well!

You are right, Mrs> RWP did have some nasty bruises but they are now beginning to fade. I think "taking it as it comes as far as blogging goes" is the best approach. Not everybody in the blogging world is nice, but you are definitely one of the good ones.

  5. I am glad that Mrs RWP is battered and bruised (but not broken).
Congratulations to both of you on the weight loss front.
Co-incidentally I do most of my blogging early too. It is a little after 6.30 here, the first load of washing is on, the garden is being watered and the rest of the household is asleep.

We are also glad that Mrs. RWP had nothing broken. Thank you re the weight loss front; we are both losing very slowly, which is probably the best way to do it. The best part about early mornings is the quietness, in my opinion.

  6. Falls can have results that range from annoying to ghastly. I'm glad your Mrs. RWP seems to be situated nearer the annoying end of the spectrum.

I found your blog because I was trying to refresh my memory on a grade school verse about being a poet, but not knowing it, even though my feet were Longfellows. Lo -- you included that in a post from 2011, and I thank you for that.

By the time I finished that entire post (Welsh poetic meter? Who knew?) I was hooked, so here I am. I write a little poetry from time to time, along with other things, and my last effort turned out more rhythmic than usual, so you helped me figure out what I'd done, too.

Since I'm on WordPress rather than Blogger, I'll tuck your URL into my feed reader, and see if I can't remember to check for new posts. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to a little archive roaming.

    1. shoreacres, first, welcome to my blog! Second, time has continued to fly and it has been almost a week since I published this post and am just now getting around to replying to comments. Please forgive my lack of, or momentary lapse in, blogging manners.

If you have been roaming in my archives there's no telling what you may find and I shudder to think about the opinion of me that you are forming. I am not completely crazy (yet), just a bit quirky compared to most everybody else. Hope you stay among the entertained!

  7. We may not all have the qualities needed to be Yorkshire Pudding but we can aspire to be like him. The Yorkshire Pudding Foundation offers an online course titled "Don't Be Yourself Be Yorkshire Pudding". The course fee is only $350 for fifty five expert hour long tuition sessions. Places are limited.
